2001 NEAT Fair Planes

Keith Mey's (Stormville, NY) 1/4 scale J-2 Cub, powered by 28 cells and a Modelair-Tech Dual DeWalt belt drive system. This model has been flying for some years now.
Wendy Halpern shows off husband Steve's MA-T Bare Bones. Steve and Wendy hail form southern Ct and are members of the Connecticut Silent Flyers who lend support to SEFLI and the NEAT Fair. Bill Hadden's 1911 Wright "B" on the wing. Bill won "Best of Show" for this marvelous "large" Speed 400 powered model.
Jerry Vasilik from Rochester, NY, carrying his flying Santa Claus (sorry, no e-raindeer). The model is built from 1/2" blue foam. The motor is a Magnetic Mayhem (reversed timing), with a 3:1 Master Airscrew gearbox and a folding Master Airscrew 12x8 prop. Flight time is 5 minutes with an 8-cell 2400 mAh NiCd pack. 18" span, 20" long, and weighs 35 ounces. Santa himself is built up from balsa and foam sheeting, and the model is painted with household latex paints. The radio is a Hitec Eclipse 7 with Hitec 555 RCD receiver and two HS-81 servos for elevon control. It's a handful of a plane to fly! (Thanks to his brother Andrey for the info.) Dave Coryell's monster B-25. Originally flown with 4 Dewalt's (2 per nacelle) on the MA-T H-1200DP belt drive. Will soon be flown with 4 Maxcim Brushless. Near 40 lbs!
Lazy Sparrow ARF flown by Nate Bousquet uses stock equipment as recommended by Hobby-Lobby. Gary Wright's original 600 sq" design named E3D, uses a Kyosho Endoplasma motor ($25) with a 4.5:1 gear box, swings a 12X8 on 10 cells and it weighs 3.5 lbs. Shown here hanging on its prop; this design did amazing stunts!
Art Valand's Bleriot II Biplane has about 1000 sq" of area and weighs 9 ozs. It's powered by a GWS DX-F motor swinging a 14x7 prop, is fed by an 8x270mAh pack and it gets ~15 minutes flight time. It flies at ~5mph and uses a pull-pull control system. Don Belfort with his Waterman Aerobile (convertible aircraft-to-car) scale model powered by a Sp400 6v on 7x500AR cells.
Sid Kaufman (of E-calc fame), and his E-Nobler, an "e" conversion of the old CL aerobat. Dave Baron's (Ct) B-17 (built by Joe Beshar) with 4 Astro geared 05's on 36 cells. Dave took possession of the aircraft at the last KRC and has since installed retracts in the model which now weighs 20 lbs and flies very realistically.
David Theunissen came all the way from England (fortunately arriving in the States before the WTC attacks shut down all air travel). He brought with him an all-foam (DERPRON) aerobatic slow flyer in a suitcase. Tom Hunt (CD) let David borrow a 72MHz Rx and Tx for it as they fly on 35MHz "across the pond".

The plane attracted a lot of attention and on the left you see Bob Kopski interviewing David about his plane.

Don Belfort showing just a few of the planes he brought along.
